This volume defines versions of the transnational in their historical and cultural specificity. By “locating”, the contributors contextualize historical and contemporary understandings of the fluid term “transnational”, which vary in relation to the discriplines involved.

So weit, so noch halbwegs verständlich – aber jetzt kommts:

[insert book title here] proposes a shift in perspective from migration as movement from place to place to migration as installing movement within place. Migration not only takes place between places, but it also has its effects on place, in place.

Wut??

In brief, we suggest a view on migration in which place is neither reified nor transcended, but ‘thickened’ as it becomes the setting of the variegated memories, imaginations, dreams, fantasies, nightmares, anticipations, and idealizations of both migrants and native inhabitants that experiences of migration bring into contact with each other.

Migration makes place overdetermined, turning it into the mise-en-scène of different histories. Hence, movement does not lead to placelessness, but to the intensification and overdetermination of place, its ‘heterotopicality’. At the same time, place does not unequivocally authenticate or validate knowledge, but, shot-through with the transnational and the transcultural, exeeds it ceaselessly.

Heute lag in meinem Fach auf der Arbeit ein wunderschöner Brief: handschriftlich verfasst, dekoratives Briefpapier; Das Beste war allerdings, dass er nicht, wie gewöhnlich, an den Geschäftsführer adressiert, sondern an den “Sehr geehrten Sachbearbeiter”, woah, das bin ja ich X)

Ferien, wer braucht schon Ferien! Ich bin nach einer kleinen Ruhepause jetzt auch wieder unter den Angestellten. Sitze hier gerade im Büro und mache Mittagspause. Hier gibts wenig Mitarbeiter, das heißt nach einiger Zeit kann sogar ich mir die Namen merken, kostenlos Tee & Kaffee und viele viele ungeordnete Aktenordner. Habe heute morgen immerhin mal den Krimskrams-Schrank aufgeräumt, dabei ca 85 Kugelschreiber auf ihre Funktionstüchtigkeit untersucht und ungefähr 500 Tackernadeln wieder halbwegs ordentlich zusammen in eine Schachtel verfrachtet. Der Schrank ist echt toll, wie so ein “best of Schreibwarenläden”. Und ich mag doch Schreibwaren so gerne.

Was nicht so gut ist, ist dass mein Auto wieder kaputt ist, dabei war ich doch erst vor ner Woche in der Werkstatt. Hmpf, die werden was zu hören kriegen.

So, jetzt muss ich mich mal wieder den Akten zuwenden. So long!
